Stellenbosch Wireless User Group

We are a group of people interested in creating a free, public and open network, using IEEE 802.11 ("Wi-Fi" or wireless) technology. More specifically in the Stellenbosch region. What sets our network apart, from other similar networks, is the fact that it is and will stay free for public non-commercial use. Furthermore, the network and its content is entirely owned by its users, which ensures that no one benefits from it financially.

We are currently in discussion with the University and the Municipality about collaborating with Stellenbosch Community Network (SCN). What exactly the WUG's role will be in this is yet to be decided, but we are eager to work together to create a bigger better network, faster.

Typical uses include: IRC, free phone calls with VOIP, file sharing and games. We are planning to provide access to the University of Stellenbosch's network for students which will give you access to things like webstudies, webmail and mymaties.
